Once or twice a month, we sit down with a member of our Dealerweb staff to find out a little more about them, what they do and any industry insights they might be willing to share.

This month, James Scragg, Business Development Manager (normally seen working from his home town of Manchester or driving around the UK, demonstrating our React software) dropped into our Exeter office to answer a few questions on his role, his lead management webinar, and – of course – what's his favourite car.

Hi James! Thanks for sitting down with me. Let’s start with an easy question:

How did you first come to work at Dealerweb?

I’d been working in the motor trade for quite a while, as a Sales Exec, Sales Manager, Buyer and even working for myself, which meant I’d seen the good, the bad and the ugly side of the industry. I wanted a new challenge in the industry, but not within the usual sector as some would see.

I was unsure what I was looking for, so applied for a couple of roles, had a couple of interviews and the best people I met were at Dealerweb who were very inviting, accommodating and by far one of the most forward-thinking companies in the industry – it was clear they had their eyes firmly set on the future of the automotive landscape. The rest, as they say, is history.

Could you briefly describe what you do at Dealerweb?

I am the Business Development Manager for Dealerweb React [our innovative lead response and notification software]. My role is to generate new business and seek out new opportunities, meaning I’m fortunate in that I get to visit showrooms and dealers around the country and demonstrate how React is an increasingly essential tool for lead notification and response.

Your job takes you across the whole of the country. Where is your favourite place in the UK?

I can honestly say I have now been everywhere and as scenic as some places are (Cornwall in particular) or as vibrant (naturally, London stands out), there is no place like home and Manchester will always be my favourite.

And when you’re not behind the wheel or in the showroom, what do you like to do outside of work?

Well, my young family is at a demanding age and so most of my hobbies like football and travel have gone out the window for now! So currently, meals out and time with friends is really cherished.

(Shameless plug alert:) I hear you have a webinar coming-up? Could you briefly describe what will be discussed, and why people should attend?

If we look at the motor trade and where it stands today, we all rely heavily upon our online presence. By having such a strong online presence, dealerships are generating more online sales leads than ever before, yet shockingly few have a solid strategy in place in terms of web lead response best practice.

The big question is - how can dealerships handle these leads in a fast and professional manner whilst also guaranteeing that lead is captured and logged?

Using a combination of my own expertise, Dealerweb consumer research and experiences engaging with dealerships on a daily basis, I’ll explore how leads are dealt with in all different ways and truly what is the best way to maximise the chance of a successful sales conversion.

Finally, being on the road a lot - what would your ideal car be to cruise the UKs road network?

I love my Audi A3 and wouldn’t change it for anything, BUT if I could have an optional add-on where it can sprout wings at the push of a button and fly over the M6 or M25 on a Friday at 6pm, then that would be a much-welcome upgrade!

Thanks James!
